The market demand for small portable terminals offering a variety of services to users coupled with the rapid advances in electronics technology has created an ever increasing need for wireless systems which can be small, convenient and ensure access of the user to its private communication environment.

On the other hand, users expect to have all these services at home (e-mail, Internet, interactive games, video and other multimedia applications) which need a lot of bandwidth and demand advanced high speed modem design and sophisticated access networks.

Typical areas of research activity:

  • Advanced transceiver architecture for wireless applications, including physical layer design and development for wireless LANs, dual mode reconfigurable radio systems, transceiver architecture for zero-IF DECT systems and transceiver design for broadband indoor radio.
  • High frequency MODEM design for digital radio and wireless applications with emphasis on the front-end system development at 140 MHz, 450 MHz and 2.4 GHz.
  • High-speed digital components and subsystems for transmission systems based on QAM and QPSK digital MODEM design, all-digital portable communications modems and multi-carrier modems for broadband interactive services.
  • Front-end RF circuits and systems for mobile radio, wireless LANs and PCN, encompassing the PCB design with existing miniature components and the RF circuit design and integration on chip level.
  • RF subsystem design and implementation, involving the transceiver architecture and the front-end design and implementation for mobile and indoor radio systems
